It's been such a busy day here at Greenfingers Designs! This summer we will be very busy bees, catch us at The Vale of Glamorgan Show, on Wednesday August 13th and at the Cardiff Country Fair on Saturday and Sunday, September, 27th & 28th. We will be at both events with our lovely 'pop up' stall, loads of chat and advice about Wildlife Gardening and Nature and lots of fun with a family activity. Make a date in your diaries and come to see us!!!
Recently whilst creating a Wildlife Garden at Hendrewennol Fruit Farm in the Vale of Glamorgan, I was photographed and interviewed for the Guardian online news as part of a feature called The Live Better Campaign. It was great to get the word out there with regard to Wildlife Gardening and Conservation, to create awareness not only about what I do but about the benefits of getting out and about in terms of the beneficial aspects, physically, mentally and spiritually. There are many things that we are great at doing here at Greenfingers Designs and Floral Decorations and Arrangements is one of them. We can offer a bespoke display of flowers for, birthdays, weddings, sympathy, or whatever the occasion. We will spread the love with a touch of inspiration and imagination to get the party started or to convey the right message about and to the people you care for the most. Why not get in contact and let us Go Floral and Get Creative for you!!!
For the first time we have used Wildflower Seedballs for our planting activities at events and they have gone down a storm with everyone! The Seedball concept has intrigued our customers who showed particular interest in how they are used and grown. Many people were concerned that they wouldn't be able to successfully propagate them to their final floral flourish, but we explained just how 'goof proof' they are! Well done, for coming up with such a brilliant idea that makes 'going wild' such a breeze!
Yet another busy weekend for us at the Hendrewennol Strawberry Festival in the Vale of Glamorgan. This two day event was jam packed with people of all ages, hoping to bag a strawberry feast! We were situated in the Wildlife Country Garden which we created especially for the event. Lots of people were interested in the garden and the ideas for giving nature a home within it and were amazed that it had been put together at no cost, proving that creativity not money is the key to engaging with nature!
As well as talking to people about Wildlife Gardening and Homes for Nature, we had a wonderful planting activity for all the family which was extremely popular with young and old alike. It was great to see children so enthusiastic in getting their hands dirty all in the cause of taking home a little Meadow in a Pot!
Here was a really popular part of our Wildlife Gardening activity, as every person who planted a pot became the recipient of a Free-Bee!!! They flew away on to hates, scarves, t-shirts and dresses to find a home with some very happy customers!
We had our very own Chicken Run in the Hendrewennol Wildlife Country Garden and they were absolutely fantastic! Everyone was enchanted by the four, 5wk old Bantams who acquired the names of Charlie, Craig, Hat and Olly. They provided a lot of entertainment for all the family and were fascinating to watch as they strutted around the run.
We had another little visitor to the garden, a testament to the phrase 'If you build it they will come'! We built a small pond out of a child's sandpit covered in hessian and naturalised with pebbles, logs, bark chips and aquatic plants. It took a few days but on the second day of the festival children noticed that the pond had a lovely green fog who had taken up residence. How wonderful was that? Frogtastic!!!!!
This event was a fantastic opportunity for us to reach so many people with our Wildlife Gardening and Conservation message and we were so pleased by the response of the public and were very heartened to see how appreciative they were of our advice and know how. It was also marvellous for us to receive such lovely comments on how pretty the garden looked. Thanks to all our lovely customers and passers by, we really enjoyed you company!
Thanks also to the owners and management of Hendrewennol for letting us create the garden and take part in the event. Thank you to some very lovely staff who made us very welcome and provided help and various resources for us to use in the creation of the garden. The garden will now remain in situ for the benefit of both people and wildlife, and that's the way it's meant to be!
From Greenfingers Designs to Hendrewennol with love.....................
This weekend has been very busy for us, we've been out and about at Hendrewennol Fruit Farm in the Vale of Glamorgan (lovely place, worth a visit) creating a very simple Wildlife Garden in readiness for taking part in their Strawberry Festival on the 21st and 22nd of June. It's taken a day and a half to transform an area without much interest into a small Wildlife haven. In creating this space we wanted to demonstrate to everyone how easy it is to completely change the look and up-cycle plants and materials found around the farm for no cost at all. Sometimes creativity means you have to get a bit inventive especially if you're on little or no budget, but that doesn't mean you can't produce something which is entirely in tune with nature. We had lots of interest in the garden from passers by who enjoyed stopping for a chat to find out what it was all about. Come and take a look for yourselves and get along to the Strawberry Festival, we will be really pleased to see you!

'Schools Out!' was out and about with a local group of school children recently, leading an activity called 'Sounds Familiar'. Many children these days don't know how to absorb themselves in the sounds of nature and wildlife that live in the surrounding environment. This activity gave them the opportunity to walk around the school grounds and test their skills in listening and being nature detectives. They were excited to hear the buzzing of the bees, the full fruity call of a blackbird, the swishing of the long grass and even the sound of silence! It was an invigorating walk, we used our ears, but we used our imagination to describe what we heard and it was audibly awesome!!!!!!!!
